| DETOURS!! |
Some people make a habit Of always seeking out The shortest, quickest way there is Leaving not a shred of doubt That, to them, life is a race A course that must be run And they're determined, in the end It's they who will have won! Always looking for the edge To shave off seconds here and there Convinced that only winning counts Unconcerned with playing fair These are folks who'll gladly cheat Whenever they see a chance Or trample others in their rush Without a backward glance... They just know there's a shortcut To every worthwhile goal And to locate it they'll do anything Even sacrifice their souls! Convinced there must be an easy way They'll search endlessly to find it And though they lose all self-respect They don't notice, or even mind it! I've seen many folks like this Racing by at breakneck speed Wasting life and energy Consumed by haste and greed Never wasting a single second On simple things like love or prayer They're much too busy rushing Day to day from here to there Even Heaven makes them think: "I must arrive there first Ahead of everyone else I know!" For them I fear the worst!" For the fastest way is not the road To which we all should keep The path to Heaven's long and hard Salvation is not cheap! What sorrows lay in store for them Despite the detours they devise If they reach the pearly gates to find That they aren't allowed inside! They were too rushed to read the Bible Or know that when all is said and done? No one shall ever reach the Father Unless he first goes through the Son!! Dusty Richardson c 2001 |
