The only way to Heaven And the Father waiting there... Is to imitate the life that Jesus led To care the way He cared! But eternal life cannot be earned! For none of us could afford The price tag attached to Paradise That was paid for by Our Lord! He suffered the kind of agony That we will never know... Only to save us from ourselves Because He loves us so! And Jesus said it plainly, many times Trying always to make us see... "You cannot win....the only way To the Father is through ME!" Some preachers I've heard seem to think That screaming's their only choice And what they love even more than Jesus Is the sound of their own voice! They spend countless hours writing Perfecting every phrase and word Rehearsing at volumes that guarantee Every syllable will be heard! And yes...some go in for drama They will rant and rave and weep Listeners may or may not be saved But they certainly will not sleep!! Somehow I don't think Salvation Should be a full-scale Broadway show All that Bible and pulpit banging Will not help anyone come to know About the life of Christ the Savior And how He died to pay the price For all the sins of all mankind With the ultimate Sacrifice! For all the words of every language Strung together in Sunday speeches Can't paint a picture of what He did Or echo what He teaches! Jesus wasn't into theater He usually used a simple story As He shared His Father's message And worked to spread His Glory! He didn't have fancy costumes There were no cue cards, lights or props He never once worked from a script Or with some elaborate backdrop Someone needs to tell those preachers Who dedicate themselves to pomp and flair? That Heaven has no Academy Awards.. Oscar does not live up there... Are they teaching or performing? With some...it's anybody's guess! The network may record each act But Heaven's NOT impressed! Jesus spoke simply, the way He lived His mission? To make men see The truth and He used just two words What He said was, "FOLLOW ME!" They did and do....despite the lack Of extravagant shows or claims True Christians aren't taken in by that For they know their Savior's Name... |
