MESSENGERS

Angels are special creatures
Unlike us; a breed apart
Created first by God the Father
They are closest to His heart
Throughout all History's pages
He has sent them down to earth
Bearing tidings of great joy
Like the evening of Christ's birth
Sometimes they've brought messages
Or delivered urgent warnings
Telling Joseph and Mary to take the Child
And be gone before the morning
Some of them are known to us
Like Michael and Gabriel
But the names of most we'll never know
They’re too many to even tell
The Guardians have a special job
And we owe them fervent thanks
Who knows how often we've been rescued
By a well-timed Heavenly yank!
And there are others whose only job
Is ferrying prayers to God on high
That is not an easy task
Unless, of course, you love to fly!
Angels visit the elderly
So that none are left alone
Others take children who are lost
And lead them safely home
Some angels serve as escorts
When it's someone's turn to die
While still others remain behind
To hold loved ones as they cry...
It's said that angels are sometimes seen
By children, drunks and fools
But mostly, they're invisible
It's some kind of Holy rule!
But you can feel their presence
If you sit very, very still
Close your eyes and open your heart
Surrender up your will...
You'll maybe hear them whispering
They say it sounds like silver bells
RInging softly in the distance
What they say it’s hard to tell…
When I was little, Grandma said
That whenever a small bell rings
It's a sign that up in Heaven
Another angel has received his wings!
So every night, down here on Earth
When you kneel to God and pray?
Remember to thank Him for the angels
That He sends to light our way!
