MRS. MITCHELL...PAGE 2
Uncomfortable now,  I began to squirm
The baby kicked and I gave a yelp!
My new friend patted my abdomen,
"Perhaps there's a way for me to help!"
She crossed her arms...appeared to think,
"You'll need a place to stay..."
I broke in quickly, "But I have----"
She just waved my words away!

"The back room of that run-down shop
Simply will not do!
You cannot care for an infant there,
Don't argue....you know it's true!"
I felt hot tears begin to trickle
As I whispered,  "I have no choice"
She put an arm around my shoulders
Then said in a gentle voice:

"My name is Mrs. Mitchell, dear
And I'd like to be your friend....
If you can meet me here tomorrow
I'll bring your troubles to an end!"
I stared at her in wonder
Not daring to believe
A complete stranger helping me?
I found quite difficult to conceive!

"I have no money, Ma'am" I said
When I could finally speak
"That's not important dear," she smiled
Patting me on the cheek;
"Shall we say tomorrow, then?
On this bench, at exactly noon?"
I nodded numbly, as she started off
Waving, "I'll see you soon!"

I watched her briskly walk away
Disappearing around the block
For quite a while I sat motionless
Almost paralyzed with shock!
That night I couldn't sleep at all
My thoughts in a constant whirl
"Dear Lord" I prayed, "Let this be true
For my precious baby girl!"

Then it struck me..how had she known
Exactly where I'd stayed?
I was sure I hadn't told her..
Although I had certainly prayed!
Relying on my faith in God
Putting all my trust in Him
Was what had gotten me through these
months
As my baby grew within.

The next day promptly, just at noon
Mrs. Mitchell showed up with a smile
Beckoning to me from the curb...
"Hurry now...we only have a while!"
I crossed the street to join her
She said, "Let's take a little walk
It really isn't far at all
And it will give us a chance to talk!"

As we started down the avenue
She began a constant stream of chatter
"First things first,"  she brightly said
"We take care of what really matters!"
We stopped at a handsome brownstone
The sign said 'APARTMENTS HERE'
She opened the door saying "In we go!"
But I hung back in dread and fear....
