STAGES!!

If your children are still small
Enjoy it while you can...
The stage where Mommy hung the moon
Has a very short lifespan!
Before you know it, they'll be 12
Much mouthier than at two!
And suddenly what they do not want
Is to be seen with you!

"Drop me at the corner, Ma..."
"Please, Dad...stay IN the car!"
For this we suffered labor pains?
Who DO they think they are???
Which brings us to the next stage
The one where even THEY don't know
Today's teens have to 'find' themselves
Parents are considered slow!

And when adolescence finally ends
They move out on their own...
Well, that sounds great...but for how long
Do they keep bringing laundry home?
And should they go to college
It's really rather funny...
The only course they pass with As
Is calling home for money!

Yup...there's no doubt about it
Parenthood can be and is a riot
After 18 years of toys and noise
You've earned some peace and quiet!
But will you get what you deserve?
Perhaps...but not quite yet....
For 'till they're safely married off
There's just no safety net!

Then one day, when you turn around
There are grandkids everywhere....
And they think your just wonderful
Despite all that gray hair!!!
They love your stories and your lap
Once again...you've "hung the moon!"
And doubts about this "grandma" thing
Will vanish very soon!

Cause grandkids were the Lord's idea
The best He had to give...
A reward from Him for all those years
We let OUR children live!!!
