THE BUTTERFLIESPG 1 HERE'S ANOTHER
ONE THAT CAME IN A DREAM AND WOULDN'T LET GO OF ME UNTIL I GOT IT
WRITTEN AND RHYMED!!      HOPE YOU ENJOY IT!!

It was a bitter winter night
And already much too late
For a girl as young as she
To sit on a bench and wait
She was huddled in her jacket
She wore no gloves or hat
Just shivered on the wooden bench
And sat and sat and sat!

Beside her was a paper bag
With the top all crumpled down
Her shoulders shook as though with sobs
But she never made a sound
Every now and then she reached
Her fingers blue with cold
To wipe a tear before it fell
To splash down in the snow

It was hard to guess her age
Perhaps 11 or maybe 12?
But she had no business out there
In the dark all by herself
It was so hard not to cry
It felt like her heart would break
But this last fight had proved to be
Just more than she could take

She’d been invited to a concert
Felt she’d die if she didn’t go
But her Mom said they could not afford
The cost of tickets to the show
It’d been awful since Dad left
She always felt ashamed
To show her free lunch pass at school
And she held her Mom to blame

Nothing was like it used to be
Just a year or two before
Everything had changed the night
Dad left and slammed the door
Now Mom was always working
Trying to keep the bills all paid
There was nothing left for extras
From the money that she made

“Well, she won’t have to worry now”
The girl thought, “Cause I’m not there
She won’t have to fight or argue
Or make believe she cares”
“May I join you?” the young girl jumped
Her heart pounding hard in fright
To see the elderly man who stood
Beside her in the night
