THE BUTTERFLIESPG 2

He wore some kind of uniform
A security guard she guessed
Maybe from that big, brick building
Behind her on the left?
His beard was gray and curly
His posture stooped and bent
He didn’t look dangerous in the least
Staring at her with a squint

He took the seat beside her
And gave a heavy sigh
“It always makes me very sad
Whenever I see children cry!”
The girl sniffed, “I’m not crying..
I’m only very cold!”
The old man asked “Why are you here
If I may be so bold?”

“My Mom’s a jerk, the young girl snapped
He said, “I see….how strange!
And you think freezing on this bench
Will somehow make things change?”
The girl just shrugged her shoulders
“All Mom cares about is work”
Her tears started once again
“She acts like such a jerk!!”

Her new friend seemed to ponder
What the girl had said
He appeared to be quite puzzled
As he slowly shook his head
“I understand you’re mad at Mom
She’s a beast from what you say
Then he grinned, “But the part that I don’t get?
Is why you’d run away?”

The girl glanced at him quickly then
“I never said that…not once”
”Didn’t have to..” her companion smiled
I’m just old…I’m not a dunce!”
“What do you know anyway?”
She snapped out in frustration
You’re so old you probably spend all your time
Asleep in hibernation!!”

“Do I now?”  the old man laughed
Till tears rolled down his cheeks
The girl tried not to notice
But she couldn’t help but peek
When their eyes met she couldn’t keep
The giggles from bursting out
And that set the old man off again
They looked crazy without a doubt!!
