THE CELL pg 2

And he still remembered the dull cloudy day
When he'd first asked Jesus to wash his sins away
While he knew Jesus taught we all should forgive
But he felt a man like himself had no right to live...
He'd stolen a father away from his son
No amount of regret could undo what he'd done
Now tomorrow was the day he was scheduled to die
No pardons or reprieves...no last-minute goodbyes

His parents had died...he'd heard...long ago
A blessing, he thought, they'd not have to know
His execution was slated tomorrow morning at 7
The chaplain left saying, "Son...I'll see you in Heaven!"
The young man tossed & turned...began to quietly weep
He was afraid and the terror would not let him sleep!
When suddenly the cell grew brilliantly bright
He opened his eyes and was blinded by light!

Before him appeared in the stark, lonely cell
A man wearing a robe...who seemed to know him quite
well
"My child you're forgiven!  You need have no fear!"
The prisoner cried, "Lord!! You shouldn't be here!"
"You're sins are forgiven" said the tall, bearded man
"They won't count against you....come look at My
hands!"
The prisoner fell before Him on both of his knees
Kissed the nail-scarred hands "Can you forgive me
these?"

Jesus raised him up, saying,  "Do not be afraid!
You are truly sorry....so your debt has been paid!
Heaven is waiting ....so don't fear or grieve
Search deep in your soul ....your heart must Believe!!
Jesus looked into the young man's frightened eyes
Seeing loneliness and despair that He recognized!
And tomorrow when the death sentence is carried out
I'll be right there beside you...don't have any doubt!

You've learned from the Bible, why I died and how
Trust me, My Son....I won't abandon you now!
