THE CROSS

So you think your cross too heavy?
That it's more than you can bear?
You feel like God's abandoned you
That He no longer cares?
Well, have a seat and rest awhile
Take a break from being blue
Pause long enough to let a rhyme
Explain it all to you...
Before you even saw the cross
That causes you to sigh?
God examined it quite closely
With a Carpenter's knowing eye
He appraised its total make-up
In His wisdom clear and true
He filled it with His endless Love
And balanced it for you...
Then with palms still showing where
The cruel nails pierced His Hands
He placed it on your shoulders, waiting
Till you were strong enough to stand...
Then He assessed your stamina
Divine judgment made that call
He blessed you with endurance
So you'd withstand every fall
He paused until you had a grip
On Him,  that would last for life
Then started you on the journey
Through a terrain of worldly strife
So as you struggle, day by day
Keep heaven as your goal
Remembering God planned every step
For the salvation of your soul
Along the road you'll lean on Him
You'll learn to pray and trust
You'll discover He will light your way
Even carry you if He must...
So be grateful for the victories
And appreciate every test
For each one brings you closer
To Him and eternal rest
And remember the lesson of this verse
For rhyme is my stock and trade
No one can hope to match God's love
Or the sacrifice Jesus made!
