THE GOOD DEED....True story...happened in a grocery store at
Parkway Plaza Shopping Center in Winston-Salem, NC about let's see...had to be
over 20 years ago because my youngest wasn't born yet...stuck with me though!

Kindness always multiplies
We've heard that a million times
And we all have our examples
So here's a favorite one of mine!
One day I ran into a grocery store
To grab some milk and bread
When a commotion two aisles over
Made me stop and turn my head

A homeless man was being hassled
By some loud and ruthless teens
In the very crowded store
They were creating quite a scene...
The man wore torn and ragged clothes
He was dirty and unshaven
His frightened eyes darted everywhere
Searching for safe haven

The customers all just stood around
No one had a thing to say
I felt sorry for the little man
But I too, turned my eyes away
Then all at once, into my head
Popped a vision of Our Lord
How the soldiers had abused him
Beaten him with clubs and swords

Would I have stepped up way back then?
Would I have defended Him?
I like to think I would have
Found the courage deep within...
I glanced over at the homeless man
That everyone refused to see
And I realized in that instant
He was staring straight at me!

Long ago when Jesus suffered?
Would I have helped?   I couldn't say....
When they tortured Him I wasn’t there
But I sure was here today!!
I pushed through the crowd of people
Straight to the little ragged man
Placed my arm around his shoulders
As I boldly made my stand

I face the angry, rowdy teens
Saying "You all should be ashamed!!
Have you no shred of decency?
Stop this foolish game!!"
The little man stood trembling
As I pressed him to my side
The threatening boys just glared at me
I wondered if I'd been unwise

I stand exactly 5 foot three
When all is said and done
The smallest boy towered over me
And I was outnumbered four to one!
Then a tall well-dressed gentleman
Who'd been behind me in the line
Stepped up..."The lady's right you know...
Find somewhere else to waste your time!"

As the bullies slowly moved away
I faced the little man
He gazed up at me with gratitude
As he shyly shook my hand
"You're an angel straight from heaven, Miss
Most don't notice folks like me...
I smiled, " I'm sure the Father does
We ALL belong to him, you see!"
