THE GUARDIAN

Almost every one of us
Was told when we were small
That we have a guardian angel
Who loves us most of all
She pictured hers as very tall
With long and flowing hair
Dressed in robes of snowy white
He went with her everywhere
His wings were of a silvery hue
Every tip all shiny gold
She knew he'd always be with her
She believed what she was told
He guarded her from dangers
Even those she couldn't see
Secretly she told herself,
"That's how much God loves me!"
Every morning and every night
Till she was almost ten
She said her guardian angel prayer
Faithfully and then
She started to grow older
Glimpsed what the future had in store
Then one day when she looked around
She couldn't see him anymore...
But as her life went slowly by
She always leaned on God in trust
Never forgetting to do the things
That the Bible says we must...
Times were sometimes very hard,
She was widowed at thirty-one
She prayed for strength and guidance
And God helped her raise three sons
Then in the twinkling of an eye
Almost sixty years had passed
The boys had long since grown and gone
Childhood flew by so fast!!
Was it when she wasn't looking?
She thought,  "I've always been around...
How could all that time go by
And never make a single sound?"
Then one night as she said her prayers
Feeling old and on her own
She heard a familiar voice that said,
"You have never been alone"
She looked around in wonder
And sitting calmly in a chair
Was her childhood guardian angel
She'd have known him anywhere!
"Where've you been?"  she had to ask
Though fearing his reply...
He smiled gently,  "I've been right here;
I've not once left your side!
I used to love it when you'd say
That angel prayer each night...
But though that stopped, you still remained
My charge in Heaven's sight"
The woman cried and bowed her head
Weeping tears of bitter shame...
"After all these years,  I have no right
To even ask your name..."
The guardian angel then reached down
Wiped her tears away and smiled,
"My name is Jacob...your faith's as strong
As when you were a child!

I've watched over and protected you
Since the moment of your birth
And even now,  it amazes me
What a soul like yours is worth!!"
"Even now?" the woman asked
"Am I about to die?"
The angel chuckled as he said:
"What you're about to do is fly!
Away from all this earthly pain
For your faith will give you wings
And when we reach the gates of Heaven
You'll hear a million angels sing
Faith like yours has always caused
A celebration up above...
God Himself waits to welcome you
And shower you with love!"
