| THE RADIO The woman wandered aimlessly All through the silent house Tears trickling down unnoticed As she clutched a stuffed blue mouse... At an upstairs bedroom doorway, She paused to glance inside Timmy's toys and all his things Brought fresh pain she couldn't hide He'd been gone almost a year Everybody said, "Move on!" But her life was stuck in neutral Her grief was still too strong... "You must believe" the pastor said "Your little boy's in Heaven!" But in her soul she raged at God "My Timmy was only 7!!" "You had no right to take him, Lord... Now he's without me...all alone! What kind of God would do that? Is Your heart made out of stone?" Her husband did not understand Just kept saying, "Please don't cry!" Friends and family all shook their heads As they turned away and sighed. No one knew about the emptiness That filled her soul each day Despair that just grew deeper And could not be chased away So she'd made her decision Found the answer deep within Her little boy'd been dead a year And her place was with him! She worked till the house was spotless There on the table was a note... "I have to go...for Timmy needs me I love you all" she wrote Still hugging Timmy's old blue mouse She slowly locked the door Crossed the garage to the waiting car Very soon she'd hurt no more She'd already placed the hose From the exhaust into the rear Then taped the opening tightly shut The instructions had been clear... All she had to do was start the car And let the engine run She'd fall asleep and when she woke She'd be with her little son She climbed into the driver's seat Propped Timmy's photo on the dash Hugged the blue mouse to her chest And closed her eyes at last... Then all at once, from far away Over the engine's rumbling noise She heard a child's voice cry "Mommy!" It sounded just like her little boy! |

| Sitting up, she listened hard It came again...but closer now! "Mommy! Listen to me PLEASE! Turn the car off NOW!" Then she realized it was the radio! Amid the noisy buzz and static Somehow Timmy's voice was coming through She fought terror first...then panic! She yanked the keys from the ignition Trying to slow her heartbeat down The car was off...the radio now Could not emit a sound! But through the speakers in the door The static could still be heard! She fiddled with the tuner knob Now trying to make out the words! Could it really be her little boy? "Timmy....is that you? Mommy's coming, sweetheart! We'll be together soon...it's true!" "No Mommy....you have to listen!" Timmy's voice now loud and strong "Jesus says you cannot do this He says to tell you that it's wrong!" |
