THE RAINY DAY...PG 2

The boy gave his word and set eagerly out
To make sure that more people heard
He felt important...especially alone
To spread God's love and His Word!
For hours he trudged along icy cold streets
Then as he rummaged inside of his bag
He found there was one booklet left in the sack
And it was almost as soggy as he
So he knew it was time to head back

Eagerly he turned his steps toward home
But something made him look to the right
Could that be a house there behind the garage?
With bushes hiding it from anyone's sight?
Poor Samuel's feet were frozen quite solid
And the rest of him soaked to the bone
He thought of his warm, cheerful kitchen
And the supper waiting for him at home...

But then he remembered Our Lord on the cross
And his discomfort seemed suddenly small...
He knew he could give a bit more of his time
Because Jesus had given His all!
So he climbed the rickety steps to the porch
To ring the doorbell he knew he'd find there
And while he waited, he squeezed his eyes shut
And whispered a small fervent prayer:

"Help me Father, to help some soul
Come to know about You and Your Son"
But when long minutes passed with no answer
Samuel thought, "My mission is done!"
He stuck the very last Bible tract
Inside the mailbox by the door
Then headed back out once again to the street
Feeling satisfied and quite self-assured.

But as soon as he stepped on the sidewalk
He heard someone call out his name...
He looked around completely bewildered
But it all looked exactly the same...
It was growing darker with every minute
Most folks were now all inside
He thought, "I'm so cold that I'm hearing things!"
But what happened next made his eyes open
wide!

"Samuel....Are you listening?
You must go back again to that door!!
I know you rang the bell....but now you must
knock
Harder than you ever have before!"
At first the boy was quite frightened
For not a soul anywhere could be seen
"Who are you, please" he asked once out loud
"I'm sure I don't know what all this could mean!"

Then Samuel felt himself growing warm
And excited as he recalled the words..
He suddenly knew  somewhere deep in his heart
That it was Jesus voice that he'd heard !!
His heart hammering fast with excitement
He raced back to where he'd been before
Snatching the booklet from inside the box
He began knocking this time on the door!
