| I've been scribbling poetry now For almost 30 years Readers seem to like my stuff It's brought laughter & some tears Folks write & email all the time To say how much they love All the rhymes that I'm convinced Come straight from God above! I can't explain the reason why Or exactly how I know But once I pray and touch a pen? The piece just seems to flow! I don't understand the process Except to say He sends the words That tell a story & touch a heart So His message will be heard! Why me? I have not a clue I'm a woman like any other With all the happiness, sin & heartache Of a wife, a friend, a mother... One day I sat and wrote a prayer Pouring out my heart to heaven Can't even remember what I asked! Cause it was back in '77!! But my parish priest, as he read it? Had tears streaming down his old face He said, "Dusty...I believe you've found Your purpose and your place! The magic that you call upon To weave words that paint a story? Is in itself a gift from God... Use it to spread His glory!" So that night I prayed, "Dear Jesus If this poetry does comes from You? Please tell me what and how to write You'll have to show me what to do!" From that day on, it's never stopped The almost daily inspiration That leaves me scramblin' to keep up As I scribble with dedication!! These poems have touched so many lives Judging from mail that I receive? People everywhere have been changed And that's why I believe!! But at first I was concerned About how to spread them out! I wanted the world to read these rhymes Of salvation beyond all doubt! My articles and essays sold a lot But publishers sang a different tune Just the mention of a poetry book Sent them screaming from the room!! So I was up against a wall What medium could I use? To get the poems out far & wide Spreading His Gospel & Good News? Then along came a new invention... And computers were everyplace! The world was suddenly all linked up Through this wonderful cyberspace!! I shook my head in wonder.. "What would they think of next? Just type & click then around the globe Someone else could read the text!! |
That's when God turned on a lightbulb! It's like He just said, "HEY D??? What exactly are you waiting for? It's GLOBAL!! And it's free!!!! So very soon, my words of rhyme Were flying across the 'Net... Feedback pouring in from everywhere And that's as widespread as it gets!! That's how the FRONT PORCH happened... For with a website, I came to see That through a link & word-of-mouth My readers could come to me!! They can click to read old favorites Spread my "link" out far & wide Sharing poetry that makes you feel That Jesus is at your side! And who's to say He isn't? I've felt Him time and time again... For deep in this poet's heart I'm sure Exactly Who guides MY pen!! |
