THE TALK

God the Father and His Son
Were strolling through the clouds
Here and there, as angels passed
Each one stopped short and bowed
As they walked, Christ shook His Head
Asked, "Father, what's to be done?
All Earth waits for My return
Has that time finally come?"
God gave a sad and rueful smile
Saying, "I'd really hoped to see
A day when ALL My children knelt
As one to worship Me...
But so far...it's not looking good
It's hard to give them credit
On Sundays they absorb My Word
But come Mondays...most forget it!
I even sent You long ago
To teach them how to live
But they haven't made much progress
At learning to forgive!"
Then God the Father shook His head
And gave a weary sigh
"If only they knew how sad I am
When they hate and millions die!"
Jesus reached out a comforting hand
To give God's arm a gentle squeeze
His Father glanced at Him and smiled
"With You I have been pleased!
And I still haven't given up
My dream that men will change,
And all unite to love Me
Even though it would seem strange!"
Jesus said, "Some of them, I know
Dedicate themselves to You
They're trying hard to be like Me"
God nodded, "That is true,
There are those who do their best
To live the way they should
They kneel in prayer most every day
Striving for all things good"
Then He sadly shook His head
"But what of all the others?
Who follow Satan and work so hard
At killing off each other:"
Jesus nodded, looking down
"By now they should have learned
That those who travel down that road
Can only crash and burn!"
Then His tears began to flow
"Oh Father...tell Me why
Was I crucified for nothing?
Is mankind doomed to die?"
God reached out for His Son's hand
Still showing the nails' scars;
"My Son...Your sacrifice showed all men
How precious they really are!
Your blood guarantees salvation
For the many who DO believe
But for those who choose to turn away
All We can do is grieve!"
Then Jesus cried, "Is that enough?
Can't something else be done?
I hate the thought of tortured souls
Even a single one!"
God the Father shook His head
"I know it may seem sad
But the final choice is in their hands
You gave them all You had!
So let's just concentrate for now
On those who kneel and pray
Depending on Us to give them strength
And always light their way
Your love reminds the faithful
That they are not alone
And to them You will always be
The shining Light that leads them home!"
