THE WHEELCHAIR..PG 1  NOT SURE JUST
WHERE THIS CAME FROM....I WOKE UP ONE MORNING WITH IT IN MY
HEAD......ENJOY !!

THE WHEELCHAIR

I am no spring chicken
I am not young or strong
So a listing  of my aches and pains
Could last the whole day long!
One cold and blustery winters day
Earlier this past year
I headed for a department store
With my arthritis in high gear

I complained and griped and grumbled
Straight through till the afternoon
When a completely chance encounter
Caused me to change my tune
While strolling up and down the aisles
I heard a laughing child's voice
"Let's have a race....I'll beat you!"
Then a woman's laugh..."Is that a choice?"

I turned the corner and abruptly stopped
Just in time to save my toes!
As a pink wheelchair came racing past
Through the racks of women's clothes!
The rider was a tiny girl
She couldn't have been more than five
Blonde braids and ribbons streaming
As she went flying by...

Close behind her came a woman
Out of breath and way in back...
She shook her head, laughing as she said
"You need your own race track!"
The wheelchair came to a screeching halt...
As it reached the aisle's end
And the little girl merrily laughed as mom
Raised her hands in mock defense!

I wandered closer, curious now
And the mom soon caught my eye...
"It's supposed to roll" she said to me
"But she's learned  to make it fly!"
Uncertainly, I smiled back at her
Then gestured towards the chair,
Mom shook her head, "The technical term
Would stretch from here to there!

My daughter's a quadriplegic now
Only able to move her head
But the doctors say it's a miracle
That she did not end up dead!"
Then she looked at the dressing room,
Saying, "I hate to impose....
But could you possibly stay with her
While I try on some clothes?"

"I certainly will,"  I quickly said
"And please...just take your time"
I approached the chair and tiny girl
With questions running through my mind
I pushed her to a seating space
Near some carts of wrinkled clothes
She giggled, "Want to see me go up high?"
Then pushed a button with her nose!
